History of the Organization

Public Association �Promotion of the Alternatives� was registered in 2010. However it has existed since 2006 on the basis of �Mental Health and Society�,  project of �Daycare Outpatient Psychosocial Rehabilitation Center for people with mental disorders�. The separation was necessary for successful lobby of our services, because �Mental Health and Society� cannot lobby the services and provide them at the same time.

Daily outpatient psychosocial support center (hereinafter the Center) is the first community-based rehabilitation center in the field of psychiatry in Kyrgyzstan. Though organization is very young it is composed of both young and experienced professionals from various fields. The organization also includes two users of mental health service, as their presence in the organization enables the implementation of the services more effectively. One of the members of the organization is the Chief psychiatrist of Bishkek city, who helps to promote the reforms in the field of psychiatry more effectively. The head of the organization is a reform-minded professional, working in the field of psychiatry for over 20 years.
